Inspiration Destination- Glitterfest

This past Saturday my daughter and I had a chance to check out an event called Glitterfest.  It’s a collection of mixed-media artist creations that include; handmade jewelry, sculptures, collages, paper creations, dioramas, glass globes, diy and repurposed one-of- a- kind art pieces.

I loved seeing how each artist displayed their work – so much originality and talent was used to put together each table, they were mini art exhibits. My favorite discovery was a “Day of the Dead” diorama contained inside a vintage suitcase by Lori Gutierrez.  It was absolutely breathtaking! Another favorite was a table that held vintage clock parts, skeleton keys, game pieces, locks, and door face plates, all perfect for creating custom jewelry pieces or layering onto a collage.

We completed our tour, with a visit to the fabulous Tara Wilson of LuluMax, whose repurposed vintage costume jewelry pieces make me swoon.

I came away with my head full of ideas, inspiration, and I may even use a little glitter!

DIY Jewelry Board

I’ll be honest with you, I have a little bit of a problem with jewelry.  I just can’t seem to resist it!  I decided to create a jewelry board so I can see all of my favorites in one place.  This way, as the seasons change I can rotate my current “collection” accordingly.

Here’s what you will need:

Cork board squares or framed message board
Fabric
Staple gun
Clamps or clips and push pins

Earrings, buttons, game pieces, mini knobs, etc.

Glue
Card stock or scrapbook paper

Scissors
I started with 2 cork board squares to achieve the thickness I wanted for the board (without a frame). I covered the board with linen fabric, including 1 extra inch to fold over the back of the board then stapled it with the gun. Metal clips were added at the top of the board to act as hangers for the necklaces. I glued vintage upholstery tacks* (they look like giant flowers) onto the push pins to use as hanging hooks and to add some visual interest.  Last of all, I used some pretty scrapbook paper cut outs as my earring holders.

I love how it turned out.  It keeps my jewelry organized and out where I can see it, plus it’s a fun piece of DIY jewelry art!  How do you keep your jewelry organized?

*You could use earrings, buttons, game pieces or even knobs on the push pins, depending on what style you want for your jewelry board.

Fall Style Wish List

I love looking at all of the fall catalogs to see what new fashion trends are being offered.  It gives me time to start my “wish list” and determine what I want to add to my closet. (By the way if you haven’t downloaded google catalogs, you are missing out on all of the online catalogs in one place!) I’ve also been pinning items onto my pinterest boards – it’s a great way to see what I’m inspired by.  This season I can tell that A), leopard shoes are in my future  B),  jewel tone denim is calling me C), perfecting cat eye “eyeliner” is a must and D), I have to find the perfect Mary Jane wedges!

So that’s the start of my fall wish list.  I’m debating adding short bangs and bright lipstick to the list.  What do you think?  Scary or fun?  I hope with a plan I can conquer my list and stick to my budget.  Because in the end, every season has trends but my overall goal is to keep building the collection in my own closet.
